Dancing is a great way to socialise, and make friends. It is a fun activity giving a reason to “dress up” and it keeps you fit. Even if you’re “sitting out” there’s plenty of chat and a “cuppa”.

Health Benefits?
- Physical fitness and stronger bones — Dance at any age can promote muscle toning and a healthy heart. The different motions involved in dancing strengthen the tibia, fibula, and femur and also help in the prevention or slow loss of bone mass associated with osteoporosis.
- Mental Fitness — Not only does dancing sessions involve socialising with you friends but it also a good way to unwind to tackle the stress of your everyday life.
- Therapeutic — There is medical evidence that dancing is associated with physical therapy. From recovering from an operation or physical damage dance can provide rehabilitative benefits. Dance speeds up your recuperation time.
Sequence Dance
Do you remember “The St Bernard’s Waltz”, or “the Gay Gordons”? These are sequence dances – where everybody together repeat a reasonably simple sequence of movements. Whilst the steps are basic “ballroom” movements, knowledge of Ballroom is not essential, and these dances- enjoyable as they are- can lead you into other forms.
Dancing 50/50
Primarily an even mix of sequence and Ballroom dances.
Social Dance
Take the 50-50 format further, adding in other dance forms (e.g. line dancing) as requested.
Equipment needed for session:
Pair of light, flexible — usually leather soled — shoes. Most men wear lounge suits, and the ladies get a chance to put on their “finery”. Dressing up makes you feel good, and aids the enjoyment and “occasion” of the dance.
